JVP to File Action Against the Government on Meethotamulla Tragedy

JVP Western Provincial Council Councillor Sunil Wadagala said, that  Kolonnawa- Meethotamulla  garbage dump tragedy  is not a natural disaster but a killing incident.

Under section 129 of the urban Council laws , it is the duty of the Urban Council to collect and dispose garbage.  Due to negligence of  duties by Urban Council Authorities,     this tragedy took place, he charged.

Although National Building Research Organization has warned well in advance that   Meethotamulla garbage mount  would fall soon or later and advised residents should be moved out , Urban Council Authorities, Ministry of  Disaster Management  and politicians have ignored the warning, blamed Sunil .

In view of the above facts , JVP is planning to file action in the  Court of law against the Government in few days time, said Sunil Wadagala at a media  conference held yesterday at JVP head Quarters in Battaramulla.
