EU Parliament Approves GSP+

The  Srilanka government is  successful  in getting the European Parliament to vote  in favour of  granting Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) to Srilanka.

436 voted for while   119  voted against it . However Srilanaka was able to  obtain approval from European Union . This reflects  a vote of confidence for the country from the international community, Government said.

The  Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva in Brussels said,  it is one of the Election promises  given to the people of Srilanka and a reward for the government .

He further said, that it is also a responsibility  of the e government to deliver on promises to further improve Sri Lanka’s record on human rights and the rule of law.
