Government Will Soon bring New Laws

The Government will soon bring in new laws, which will include new public services as essential to the life of the community so that trade unions will not be able to hold the country and the public to ransom with their crippling strikes etc.

It has now become necessary to have these laws so that we will not see trade unions holding the essential services to ransom, as we saw with the recent petroleum sector strike and Friday’s transport, health and education strikes.

The government understands that the space for trade unions to exercise their rights should exist, but at the same time, the government also cannot allow the unions to bring the country to a standstill and hold society to ransom.

We are a democratically elected sovereign government and will play to the rules democratically, so that justice would be meted out to all stakeholders, government sources said, explaining that these were not matters to be done after announcements, but we will bring in these laws as a sovereign government in the best interests of democracy.
