NCPC in Trouble

Followed by the NCPC’s Health Minister’s removal on Wednesday(10), Trade Minister S.M.Ranjith made a public statement registering his protest against the removal and resigned from his portfolio.
In a new development , out of 21 UPFA members in the NCPC 18 opted to function as independent members. They all support the joint opposition. Anuradhapura district UPFA parliamentarian affiliated to JO, S.M.Chandrasena yesterday threatened to organize the masses for a massive protest to be staged outside the NCPC unless a joint opposition member is appointed as the Chief Minister. While UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said yesterday, 18 member’s decision to work independently in the NCPC won’t make any impact, former President Mahinda Rajapakshe said that the Joint Opposition is not planning a conspiracy to capture power in the NCPC.
The appointment of the Chief Minister is determined by the majority of votes one received in the Provincial Council.
