Is Carlo Fonseka to be replaced by Colvin at Srilanka Medical Council?

The chairmanship of the Sri Lanka Medical Council incumbent Carlo Fonseka’s term ends next month.

During the Rajapaksa’s era, Carlo was pro-SAITM and openly supported it. The GMOA too had supported the SAITM. But, now both are joined and protest against SAITM. The government has reason to believe that Carlo is siding with the GMOA when dealing with the SAITM issue.

Reports receiving us say, that Carlo is making request after request to the health minister to get his term extended.  But the minister is said to have been considering appointing an independent personality to the position. In that context, there is a proposal to appoint a specialist doctor, Dr. Colvin Gunaratne as the SLMC chairman.

However, the health and the higher education ministry appoint members to the SLMC.
