22 schools given holiday as nomination deadline approaches

 

The Ministry of Education has announced a decision to declare a holiday for 22 schools in the Western Province on Monday, July 13.

The reason behind this is to avoid the traffic congestion that may be caused as a result of it being the final day to submit nominations for the parliamentary elections.

Director of education for the Western province Vimal Gunaratna stated that accordingly, 14 schools in Gampaha, five schools in Kalutara and four schools in Sri Jayawardanapura will be closed on Monday.

The schools in Gampaha that will be closed on Monday are as follows: Gampaha Bandaranayaka Vidyalaya, Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Yashodara Balika Vidyalaya, Thakshila Vidyalaya, Bandarawatta Parakramabahu Vidyalaya, Keppetipola Maha Vidyalaya, Siddhartha Kumara Vidyalaya, Gothami High School, Gajaba High School, Sri Bodi Primary School, Holy Cross Girls School, Sumedha Vidyalaya, Yakkala Anura Central College and Yakkalachandra Jothi Maha Vidyalaya.

The schools in Kalutara that will be closed tomorrow are St.John’s College, Velapura Maha Vidyalaya, Gnanodhaya Vidyalaya, Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya, and Kalutara Vidyalaya.

In Sri Jayawardanapura, President’s College Rajagiriya, Siri Hada Vidyalaya, Hewawitharana Vidyalaya and Parakum Vidyalaya will be closed on Monday

Meanwhile, 14 schools in Rathnapura and seven schools in Kegalle will be closed at 11.30 a.m. on July 13.

Director of education for the Sabaragamuwa district S. Kuruppuarachchi said that the decision was taken to avoid traffic congestion that may occur due to the deadline of submitting nominations for the general elections.
