Cabinet Paper on SAITM By Rajitha

The South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) issue has become a bleeding problem in Srilanka. University students and Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) appears to have  determined  to demand closure of SAITM stating that minimum standard for admission to  medical profession in private medical colleges are not  in accordance with the  accepted standards.
Day before yesterday university students protesting against SAITM  invaded the Health Ministry and caused damaged to property. Police said, they  used necessary  minimum force to control the invading students. In the melee several students were wounded and admitted to the hospital.
Under these circumstances Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne said, that a Cabinet Paper specifying the minimum standard for medical education in Srilanka will be presented to the cabinet for approval next week.
The Health Minister added that he was to meet the head of the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) Professor Carlo Fonseka on Wednesday.
