Optional Retirement Age of Private Sector Employees to be Increased to 60

Minister of Labour, Trade Union Relations and Sabragamuwa Development ,W.D.J.Seneviratne said,  that his Ministry is taking steps to submit a cabinet paper proposing to increase the optional retirement age of private sector employees from current  55 to 6o. This is in response to several requests made by private sector trade unions. He said, first of all this matter will be taken up for discussion in the forthcoming National Workers Advisory Committee meeting  and a report prepared. Along with this report a cabinet paper will be submitted to obtain the Cabinet approval to increase the optional retirement age of private sector employees, he concluded.
