Water Released For Yala Cultivations

With the construction of the Moragahakanda Reservoir, which is the final project of the Mahaweli Scheme, it has become possible to meet the water shortage for cultivations in several areas including the Polonnaruwa District.
For the first time water is released from the Moragahakanda Reservoir to Kaudulla Reservoir for the 2018 Yala season cultivations in Polonnaruwa. With the water released from the Moragahakanda Reservoir yesterday it is possible to cultivate 7800 acres of paddy fields for three seasons, Kaudulla Main Irrigation Engineer Punarjee Badoragama said. Water will be supplied on the 15th of next month from the lower sluice gate of the Kaudulla reservoir to cultivate another 5700 acres of paddy.
Irrigation Engineers say that water can be supplied without any problems to Rajarata from the Moragahakanda Reservoir during the Yala Season.
