UNP is Firm on New Constitution

In a press conference held in Srikotha yesterday, 29th, Deputy Minister Ajith Perera said, that the UNP is determined to introduce a new constitution instead of bringing amendments to existing constitution.
Although the SLFP’s position is to bring amendment to existing constitution and passing it without going for referendum, the UNP is firm in a new constitution and going for people’s mandate through a referendum. He is hopeful in time to come the SLFP too will agree t a new constitution.
Referring  to  series of protest demonstrations and strikes, Ajith Perera said, that the former President  Mahinda Rajapakshe is the main cause and behind it.
On future elections, he said that the  UNP will be able to win in most electorates. Local government elections will be held within 3 months, he concluded.
