People’s Organization Against Uma Oya Has No Faith in Ministerial Committee
Uma Oya Multi-purpose Development Project is seen as a potential threat to people’s life in Bandarawela. Project implementation has resulted in sinking of the Bandarawela town and water resources dried up.
The President Maithreepala Sirisena has appointed a committee to conduct a field inspection today (03) and make their observations to him. The Committee comprised of cabinet ministers, Mahinda Amaraweera, Patali Champika Ranawaka and Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa are scheduled to visit Uma Oya today (3)
They are expected to extensively address the environmental damage caused by the project as well as a potential operation to provide relief to victims.
The committee will also be assessing the continuation of the project, after taking into consideration expert opinions provided by foreign specialists.
However, the people’s organization against the Uma Oya Multi-destructive Development Project stated during a media briefing yesterday (02), that they had absolutely no faith in this cabinet committee and demanded a Presidential Commission to resolve the issue.
