Premajantha: ”Crossovers to the UNP front are not a threat to UFPA”

The General Secretary of United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Susil Premajayantha said the candidates who have crossed over from the Alliance and contesting from the United National Front for Good Governance are not a threat to the party.

Addressing media at the party headquarters Tuesday, the party senior asserted that not a single member who crossed over to the UNP could impact the UPFA voter base.

He expressed confidence that the UPFA will win 14 Election Districts. The UNP could win only four, he said.

The General Secretary said the election campaign for UPFA will be carried out comprehensively through a committee. The alliance will hold its first election rally on 17 July and will release the election manifesto within a week.

Speaking at the briefing, former MP DEW Gunasekara said they cannot agree with the policies of the United National Front formed to battle against former president Rajapaksa.

it is the duty of the public to franchise their votes to select a suitable party to work with executive authority, Gunasekara said. He advised the public to ensure that they do not select a wrong party to create a constitutional conflict between the executive authority and Parliament.

The leader of National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa said the expectation of UPFA is to create a nation with a co-existence and mutual understanding between Maithri-Mahinda coalition.

However, Sri Lankan President in a statement to media Tuesday vowed that he will continue to stand against the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and asserted that he will be defeated again.
