Two men from Badulla – Andeniya area were caught red-handed while they were selling eight ivory pearls to a police decoy.
Badulla Police following a tip-off, trapped the duo into carrying out their illegal business with a police decoy.
The two arrived at a location in Badulla on July 5 with the ivory pearls not knowing that they had fallen into a police trap.
They had tried to earn Rs. 1 million through the transaction.
Meanwhile, a man pleading guilty of having 25 madanamodaka packs was fined Rs. 9,000 by Thambuttegama Magistrate I. M. S. B. Ilangasingha on July 7.
The suspect is a resident of Siyambalangamuwa.
He was arrested by Thambuttegama Police. He was behaving indecently under the influence of liquor at the time of arrest, the prosecution told court.
Meanwhile, a lorry full of cattle travelling on the Kandy – Ampara Road was seized by Padiyatalawa Police at Padiyatalawa.
The lorry was stopped by the police on a tip-off while it was passing through their duty station.
They found 17 cattle inside the lorry, including one without a limb.
The lorry had been illegally transporting the cattle from Mahaoya to Kandy. Officials seized the cattle and the vehicle and arrested three suspects.
The trio was taking the cattle for sale in Kandy.
They were to appear before court for inflicting cruelty on animals.
