The Presidential Commission investigating the Treasury Bond Scam has decided to summon Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayake to the Commission’s hearings tomorrow(25).
It is learnt that a decision was made to summon him to the Treasury Bond Commission hearings because Minister Karunanayake, who is the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, was the Finance Minister during the period of the questionable Central Bank Treasury Bond issues and would have knowledge of facts regarding the irregular Treasury Bond issues.
The Presidential Commission, comprising Supreme Court Judges K. T. Chithrasiri and Prasanna Jayawardena and former Deputy Auditor General Velupillai Kandaswami, is investigating issues of Treasury Bonds under the present Government covering the period 1 February 2015 to 31 March 2016.
