Govt. Is  Firm on Ban of  Polythene & Plastics

Despite Chairman of All Ceylon Polythene Manufactuures and Recyclers  Association(ACPMRA) Anura Wijethunga met  the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad  Bathiudeen on 8th August and insisted the immediate intervention of the Minister to resolve the polythene and plastic ban issue and follow up  steps taken by the Minister, President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday stressed that the Government’s policy decision taken on banning polythene and plastics will not be reversed.
The President stated the Central Environmental Authority should take the responsibility of preparing the necessary background to implement the policy decision effectively and without delay.
The President made these observations participating in a progress review meeting of the Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry held at the Ministry auditorium yesterday afternoon.
