Special Levy on Sugar Added to Cool Drinks

Ministry of Health has decided to impose additional tax on sugar added  to cool drinks  with immediate effect.

As per World Health Organization requirement , Ministry has determined that the maximum sugar that could be added for a 100ml  cool drink is 6g.

Addition of  every 1g sugar above 6g will be taxed at the rate of Rs1 per gram. Minister Rajitha said, that this proposal will be presented to the cabinet  and approval obtained.
