PAFFREL  Petitioned  Supreme Court  Against 20th Amendment

PAFFREL  has petitioned Supreme Court against  20th Amendment to the Constitution yesterday(28). According to 20th amendment,  Election for all Provincial Council should be held in one day. A gazette notification has already been issued in this connection.  The Government has submitted the 20th amendment in Parliament. Under this amendment  Government is empowered to postpone PC elections until October 2019. If the terms of a Provincial Council expires before  the above date, powers of it will be automatically transferred to the Parliament .
At a time the necessity arise to strengthen the Election Commission, the Government is trying to rob its’ rights and give it to Parliament. Hence, this will have an impact on people’s right to vote and their democratic  rights . Therefore,  it should not be passed in parliament with  simple majority . But  a referendum should be called . The petition states while the PAFFREL  appreciates the steps taken by the Government,  but register its’ protest against postponing the elections. Based on the above three facts PAFFREL  has submitted  the petition in the Supreme Court  to obtain an interpretation for it in the Supreme Court in this  connection.
