The Government of Srilanka and a Chinese company had signed an agreement this year. Under this agreement Srilankan employees feel that there is a risk for their job security.
Hence, Employees of the Hambantota Port reported to have struck work and went on token strike from 8.00am to 5.00pm at the port entrance today (27) demanding security of their employment .
Trade unions say that the strike was launched demanding that 466 workers at the Magampura Port be made permanent employees or be paid a proper compensation if they are to be terminated from employment.
