While answering a question posed by journalists at the weekly cabinet press conference held on 27th at the Department of Government Information, Co-Cabinet spokesperson Dayasiri Jayasekera said the price of coconuts has increased due to the drought in the country.
He further said that 200,000 coconut trees were destroyed in his electorate due to the drought. Once a tree is destroyed it takes 45 months to get a harvest. Increasing price of a coconuts was discussed at the weekly Cabinet meeting and the Plantation Ministry was taking steps to remedy the situation, he concluded.
