The group were arrested and remanded for their involvement in Hambantota protest , MP Namal Rajapaksa, MPs D. V. Chanaka, and Prasanna Ranaweera, Provincial Councillors Upali Kodikara, Sampath Athukorala and Major Ajith Prasanna, are scheduled to be produced before the court today(16).
The group was arrested on 10th this month, when they reported to Hambanthota Police Station to make a statement in connection to the protest that was staged in front of the Indian Consular Office in Hambantota on the 6th of October.
The Joint Opposition staged a protest to voice their objections to the long-term leasing of the Mattala Airport to an Indian firm. So far 40 persons are in remand custody.
