President Appoints Cabinet Sub-Committee to Look Into Fuel Shortage Issue

Followed by petroleum authorities turned away a shipment of about 40,000 tonnes of gasoline saying it was contaminated, motorists rushed to fuel stations to fill their vehicle tanks, which resulted in long queues formed at fuel stations and forced many commuters to leave their cars at home.
In response to a request made by the worried Petroleum Resources Development Minister Arjuna Ranatunga at the cabinet meeting held today (7), President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed a Cabinet sub-committee to look into the current fuel shortage issue and recommend solutions. The three-member committee Chaired by Special Assignments Minister Dr Sarath Amunugama comprised of Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka and Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.
