Court of Appeal Decision on Gotabhaya’s Writ Petition to be Given Today

Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has filed a writ petition in the court of appeal requesting an interim injunction preventing the continuation of the investigation regarding the alleged misappropriation of more than Rs.30 million to construct D. A. Rajapaksa Commemorative Museum by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division under the Public Properties Act.
The petition states that political authorities were carrying out this investigation with an ulterior motive of having the former Defence Secretary remanded. Five persons including IGP Pujith Jayasundera and the CID Director have been named as respondents in the petition.
When it was taken up yesterday before the Appeal Court President Justice L. T. B. Dehideniya and Shiran Gooneratne, the Counsel appearing for Gotabaya argued that the matter doesn’t coming under the Public Properties Act. They are trying to charge him under this Act in order to arrest and remand him. The Court of Appeal announced that the decision on this matter will be given today (29)
