The Fort Magistrate’s Court in October issued an arrest warrant for Udayanga Weeratunga(former SL’s ambassador to Russia) over a case regarding the purchase of four MIG27 Aircraft.
Udayanga Weeratunga has filed a fundamental rights petition, calling on the Supreme Court to issue an order to retract the arrest warrant issued through the INTERPOL by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court. The petition also calls on the supreme court to issue directives to the seven respondents to pay Rs 100 million in compensation and to release a container with goods belonging to Udayanga Weeratunga .
When the case was taken up today, the Supreme Court three member bench comprising judges Sisira de Abrew, Nalin Perera and Priyantha Jayawardene ordered to take the case for hearing on the 29 th of March 2018.
