Followed By President’s Letter And Successful Discussions Russian Tea Ban To Be Lifted From 30th December

Tea imports from Srilanka were halted earlier this month after Russia reportedly found an insect known as the Khapra beetle in a tea consignment from Sri Lanka.
President Maithreepala Sirisena has addressed a letter to the President Putin on Russian tea ban. Several other diplomatic moves were taken by the Srilanka government, which included a high level delegation held talks with the agriculture ministry officials of Russia. All above efforts resulted in Russia lifting the ban on 30th.
The Minister of Plantation Industries Naveen Dissanayake has made the public announcement that the   ban imposed by Russia on tea imports from Sri Lanka will be lifted on the 30th of December.
Russia is one of the biggest importers of Sri Lankan tea, which accounts for nearly a quarter of its $436m market.
