Educational Publications Commissioner Dismissed the Story, School Free Books Are Being Sold 

The Commissioner for Educational Publications, M.M.K.P.Iyankasinghe dismissed the news item carried in the media that the Ministry of Education is trying to sell the free school books issued to students in private sector. Vested political and other interests have planted this story in the media to achieve self benefits, he said. This year alone more than 3 billion was allocated for printing free school books.

Due to heavy volume of work experienced in the government press, there was a delay in printing certain free books. However, most of the printed school free books have been issued through the Ministry of Education.
