JVP Leader Anurakumara Requests Speaker to Summon Parliament Urgently to Discuss PCoI Report & Implementation of Recommendations

Report of the PCoI was handed over to the President Maithripala Sirisena, who yesterday revealed the contents, which included the Commission’s findings and recommendations, to the public via Television.

The parliament is scheduled to meet 23 January 2018. The JVP feels the date was too far off and the matter would be delayed.  Further, he stated in his letter that the Commission report had recommended that several laws pertaining to the Central Bank should be amended and that the action must be taken to prosecute those,  who caused the losses to State coffers and steps be taken to recover those losses and profits earned illegally.

In view of the above facts, he requested the speaker to summon parliament on an urgent basis. However, Speaker reported to have said, that it should be decided by the Prime Minister?
