Steps Taken to Round Up Beggars in Colombo

As several complaints lodged by motorists that they were harassed by beggars near signal lights when they stop their vehicles, authorities had taken steps and banned begging as from 1^st January 2018.

Police and relevant authorities have started rounding up beggars specially those , who target signal lights and take them to rehabilitation centre at Ridigama. Those, who are physically fit will be assigned work and paid Rs 1,500 per day. Others will be gainfully utilized to make their life happy.
