UNP Election Strategies to be Discussed  at the Urgent Meeting  Called Today

The Executive Committee of the United National Party will meet this afternoon (17) to review the progress of the election campaign and the new strategies to be   adopted at ground level for the Local Government election. Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will chair the meeting.

In the meantime, the President Maithripala Sirisena had made a special statement at yesterday’s (Jan. 16) Cabinet meeting with regard to the criticism levelled at him by the UNP Ministers and MPs. In response the UNP Ministers reported to have expressed views relating to statements made by SLFP Ministers which could harm the sustainability of the Unity government. At one stage the President said to have lost his patience and left the cabinet meeting for a short while.

This matter will also be discussed at today’s UNP Executive Committee meeting.
