Charge Sheet to be Issued Against Deputy Minister Ranjan in Contempt of Court Case……

On 21st August 2017, Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanahyake made a public statement detrimental to the judges, which amounts to contempt of court.
Maagalkande Sudaththa Thera  and  three others filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Ranjan Ramanayake.
The 3-member bench included Justice, Sisira de Abrew, Justice Nalin Perera, and Justice Vijith Malalgoda was appointed to hear the case.
After this petition was called on 14th of December last year, the Deputy Minister, addressing the media outside the courtroom criticized the actions of certain judges.
When the case was taken up for inquiry today (22), the Additional Solicitor General, Priyantha Naavana appearing for the Attorney General  informed the Supreme Court  that Attorney General’s Department  will file charges against Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake  for making statements which are contempt of court.
The Additional Solicitor General said that the Attorney General’s Department has obtained the voice recording from the media institutions. He said the voice recording will be sent to the Attorney General after it has been submitted to the panel of judges today.
The Additional Solicitor General also said charges will be filed against the Deputy Minister after recording is studied by the Attorney General.
The Supreme Court thereafter postponed the petition until 23rd of March 2018.
