No Chance For Rejected Candidates To Contest Election-PAFFREL

Election monitoring body, the People’s Action For Free and Fair Election (PAFFREL) Director Rohana Hettiarachchi says, certain candidates, who were rejected after filing nomination lists were reportedly attempting to support independent groups in order to contest the Local Government Election. But they cannot contest the upcoming Local Government Election under any circumstance.

 Certain factions claimed   that in the event independent candidates from an independent group were to win the election, they could willingly resign from their post in order to make way for rejected candidates to take their place.

Rohana Hettiarachchi categorically said, candidates whose nomination list was rejected cannot receive membership through the win of another group. Further, he stressed there was no legal basis to such claims.
