A 50kg bomb was located near the Katunayake Airport by locals clearing a stream. The bomb is believed to have dislodged from the aircraft that crashed while attempting to bomb the airport in the 2007.
“The bomb was inside a plastic barrel in the swamp some 50 metres away from the location where the LTTE aircraft was shot down. We have secured the area and SLAF bomb disposal unit will soon defuse the bomb,” SLAF sources stated.
The bomb was handed to the Air force bomb disposal unit.
