Important Notice by the Central Bank…….
Last date to submit damaged and torn out Srilankan currency notes in exchange for new notes expires on 31st March 2018. After this deadline Banks won’t accept damaged or torn out Srilankan currency notes. The head of the finance department Deepa Seneviratne made this announcement.
She further said, comparing Srilanka with other countries, our currency notes are not handled properly and kept clean. When foreigners come to Srilanka, in exchange to dollars and other foreign currencies they get dirty Srilanka notes. Foreigners like clean notes. As Srilnakan currency is not properly handled, it get damged and the centreal bank is compelled to print currency notes.If we carefully handle notes this problem won’t arise she said.
Another problem faced by the Central Bank is that coins were put into the till of Kovils, Temples and Devalayas, which too compels the central Bank to print more coins. Cost of a coin is much more than the value of it. However, there is no shortage for coins in Srilanka, she said.
