RTI Commission Considers Appeals on Refusals to Provide Information by State Institutions

 The Right to Information Commission is to act on 101 appeals made by Public against refusals from state institutions to provide certain information under RTI Act.
Chairman of the commission, Piyatissa Ranasinghe said the commission received 356 appeals last year. He added that hearings are being conducted into all the appeals.
After hearings conducted into over 100 appeals the Chairman has ordered relevant state institutions to release the information requested.
The chairman further noted that the general public can file appeals at the commission on requests of information submitted to 3,500 state institutions.
