JO Demands to Announce PC Election Dates
Speaking at a media briefing leader of the Joint Opposition group Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunewardene said the term of Provincial Councils that expired cannot continue to operate under a governor indefinitely.
The MP noted the Joint Opposition has rejected a Governor looking after public affairs. Even the government has also stated that it is against it.
The Supreme Court has stated that a Governor cannot run affairs and that it is unsuitable.
Hence , the Joint Opposition demands , the government to announce the time frame during which the Provincial Council Election will be held. They also asked the government to exploit the possibility of conducting Eastern, Sabaragamuwa and North-Central Provincial council Elections on the 31st of March
