President Considers Request Made By Maha Sangha Regarding Tuition Classes on  Sundays/ Poya Holidays

The Maha Sangha requested the President to require educationists to refrain from conducting tuition classes on Sundays and on poya holidays. The President Sirisena in response said the matter has been discussed with heads of Provincial Councils and advised them to refrain from conducting classes on Sundays.
The President noted some Provincial Councils have enforced this law while a satisfactory position pertaining to this matter has not been reached. However, the President while speaking at a function in Colombo last evening said requests to prevent the conduct of classes have gone unheard.
The President considers repeatedly made request to refrain from conducting tuition classes on Poya days and on Sundays. President Sirisena said the government will pay more attention to their concern and a firm decision will be taken in future
