Government Analyst Visits Horana Factory Today

At around 1.20 pm yesterday, a worker at the rubber factory in Bellapitiya, Horana had fallen into the Ammonia tank of the factory.

Followed by this incident , fellow employees and few villagers had attempted to rescue him. In their attempt a few of them too had fallen into the Ammonia tank. Some of them to have fallen into the tank resulting in 5 deaths and 40 persons admitted to Horana Base Hospital. 18 of them are still in the hospital and they are suffering from respiratory problems after inhaling the toxic gas. Hospital sources said the condition of one of them was critical.

The Government Analyst is scheduled to visit the rubber processing factory in Bellapitiya, Horana today (Apr. 20) where 5 persons were killed following an industrial accident.

Thereafter a report will be submitted to the Horana Acting Magistrate Kanthi Kannangara.

Police had arrested the Manager of the factory for negligence.

The owner of the factory has also been asked to report to the police to record a statement.

Police also increased the security in and around the factory after area residents showed their anger against the manner the factory is run.
