SLMC attacks journalists at Potuvil – CMEV

 

The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) and the police said that journalists namely M. M. S. Udha (Nawamani Vidiwelli) A. L. M. Ziyath (Kilakkuvaan news website) had been attacked by SLMC supporters on Friday night for recording a clash there during a political meeting presided over by SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem at ‘Old Court’ city in Potuvil.

The Potuvil police confirmed receiving a complaint from Udha. The CMEV said that Ziyath had also confirmed the incident.

The CMEV quoted Potuvil OIC Upul Senevirathne as having said that the police had requested Ziyath to stay the night at the police station to prevent a possible untoward incident. The police expressed concern for the journalist’s safety due to him having recorded a fracas there.
