Appointing a Muslim Deputy Minister For Hindu Affairs Inconsistent –Hindu Politicians

President Maithripala Sirisena has recently appointed Vavuniya MP Kadar Mastan as the Deputy Minister of Resettlement Rehabilitation and Hindu Affairs.
Appointing a Muslim as Deputy Minister in charge of Hindu Affairs has created protests by Government as well as opposition Hindu politicians. They claim it is inconsistent.
Among protesting  other Hindu politicians, Minister of Resettlement Rehabilitation and Hindu Affairs D. M. Swaminathan has written to the Secretary to the President  Austin Fernando  quoting many statements expressed by both side of the politicians in media over the appointment of MP Kadar Mastan as the Deputy Minister in Charge of Hindu Religious Affairs.
In response, the President’s Secretary Austin Fernando had informed the Minister stating that President Maithripala Sirisena will find a favourable solution to the grievances expressed by some Tamil politicians in the government and the opposition on the appointment of a Muslim MP as a Deputy Minister in charge of Hindu Affairs.
