13 Foreigners arrested for visa fraud

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A total of 13 foreign nationals have been arrested from various parts of the island on charges of violating emigration and immigration laws and remaining in the country without a visa.

The foreigners were arrested during search operations conducted by the security forces.

Six Nigerians who were residing in the country without visas were arrested down Watarappala road, Mount Lavinia last evening.

The suspects were 26, 27, 28, 33 and 35 years of age.

The suspects will be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today.

Police arrested four more Nigerian Nationals in Buthgama Road, Welikada for remaining in the country without valid visas yesterday.

The suspects, aged 28 and 30 will be produced before the Hultsdorf Magistrates’ Court.

The Welikada Police are conducting further investigations.

A female Thai National was arrested by the Dehiwala Police for remaining in the country without a valid visa in Nadimala, Dehiwala yesterday.

The 28 year old suspect will be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today.

Meanwhile an Indian National was also arrested in Ratmalana over the violation of emigration and immigration laws and remaining in the country without a valid visa.

The 20 year old suspect will be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today.

An Iraqi National was arrested by the Nawagamuwa Police last evening over the violation of emigration and immigration laws and remaining in the country without a visa.

The 56 year old suspect will be produced before the Nawagamuwa Magistrate’s Court today.

The Nawagamuwa Police are conducting further investigations.
