Small fishing trawlers allowed to set out to sea

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The Department of Fisheries has decided to allow small fishing trawlers to set out to sea from today.

The Department said necessary approval will be granted through divisional fisheries offices.

The Fisheries Department decided to temporarily ban fishermen from setting out to sea due to the inclement weather experienced over the island and the ensuing rough seas.

The Department noted it decided to allow fishermen to set out to sea due to the improving weather conditions.

Meanwhile the Fisheries Department said vessels that were swept away into Indonesia owing to cyclone Amphan are reaching Lankan shores.

30 vessels that were stranded will return to the country during the next four days.
