COVID-19 recoveries increase to 1,619

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The number of persons who have recovered after contracting the novel coronavirus in Sri Lanka has increased to 1,619.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 17 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals during the past 24 hours.

Accordingly, seven COVID-19 patients were discharged from the Kattankudy Base Hospital, while four were discharged from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and three from the Hambantota District General Hospital.

Two persons were also discharged from the Teldeniya Base Hospital and one individual was discharged from the Iranawila Hospital during the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile nine new COVID-19 cases were detected in the country yesterday, raising the total number of infections to 2,010.

The Government Information Department said three new cases identified yesterday were sea marshals who were housed at the Boossa quarantine centre, while another six individuals who tested positive for the coronavirus earlier in the day were identified as Navy personnel.

380 COVID-19 patients are currently receiving medical treatment at 10 hospitals across the country.

36 persons who are suspected to have contracted the virus are also under medical observation.

Meanwhile, 11 deaths in Sri Lanka have also been linked to COVID-19.
