No decision to impose curfew or issue holidays

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The government says a decision has not been taken to impose curfew or declare holidays in the country owing to the prevalent situation as a result of the coronavirus.

The Government Information Department issuing a statement yesterday said it has observed certain groups circulating false information continuously pertaining to a lockdown.

The statement added among the false claims are several institutions being closed owing to the present coronavirus situation.

The Government Information Department noted that such false statements are focused on misleading the public and creating an unnecessary stir amongst the public.

The statement added that relevant units have been informed to conduct stringent investigations into groups circulating such false information.

The government meanwhile requested the public to refrain from being misled by such claims and to remain vigilant at all times.

The government also urged the public to strictly follow health practices issued by health authorities.

The government reiterated that all measures needed to contain the spread of the coronavirus across the country, with the recent spike in cases from the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, have been taken.

The Government Information Department said it has been noted that individuals being directed to quarantine and PCR testing is being interpreted by certain individuals as COVID-19 positive discoveries, leading to the spread of false information.
