PS5 gets free games and a PSVR problem
(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Ahead of the PlayStation 5’s launch in two weeks, Sony has announced the ‘PlayStation Plus Collection’ – a free bonus for PS Plus members who purchase the new console (the collection is unavailable to PS4 users).
Basically anyone with a PS5 who pays a small monthly subscription fee to PS Plus will have access to any of the games in the collection for free. This week the full line-up of games that will be available to PS5 owners on launch day were revealed and are as follows:
First Party: “Bloodborne,” “Days Gone,” “Detroit: Become Human,” “God of War,” “Infamous Second Son,” “Ratchet and Clank,” “The Last Guardian,” “The Last of Us Remastered,” “Until Dawn,” “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”.
Third Party: “Batman: Arkham Knight,” “Battlefield 1,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops III – Zombies Chronicles Edition,” “Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy,” “Fallout 4,” “Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition,” “Monster Hunter: World,” “Mortal Kombat X,” “Persona 5,” “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard”.
That first party list encompasses a large swath of all the major PS4-only exclusives across the console’s lifetime with the notable exceptions of “Marvel’s Spider-Man,” “Horizon: Zero Dawn,” “Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection,” “Death Stranding,” “Shadow of the Colossus: Remastered,” “Infamous: First Light,” “The Order 1886,” “Concrete Genie,” “Killzone Shadowfall,” “Uncharted: The Lost Legacy” and the more recent major releases “The Last of Us Part II” and “Ghost of Tsushima”.
In addition the new PS5 title “Bugsnax” will be free for PS Plus members who own a PlayStation 5.
Sony has balanced out that good news with some bad. After indicating a second incarnation of the PSVR is still years away, the company has confirmed that upcoming VR releases for “Hitman 3” and “No Man’s Sky” will only be available if you buy and play the PS4 version of the games.
A Sony rep tells UploadVR that PSVR on the PS5 is only backwards compatible, meaning only playable with PS4 versions, and “we have not announced PS5 titles for PS VR.” Sony is currently giving away a free adaptor which allows the use of PlayStation VR when playing supported PS4 games on a PS5 console.
The good news is when you’re done with the PS4 version, both game titles are offering free upgrades to the PS5 version.
