The demise of Venerable. MathuluwaweSobhitha Thera is no doubt a great loss to the country and had come as a great shock to all of us be we Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims or of any other ethnic group or faith. This is the greatest of many great losses the country suffered in recent times. His majestic personality reflected much in his speeches and actions and had a great influence on our people. Who will fill the gap created by his demise is the question now.
The efforts he took to re establish justice and fair play is not at all an easy task. “Give me six Months. I will achieve it”, is the challenge he threw to the people that made the people to think. Not only that, the change of government also took place for the same reason.
But amidst many problems this developed into a silent revolution, but his achievements cannot be protected by us, if we do not wake up now. It is due to this doubt he had about his dreams materializing he had expressed his concerns off and on. The inter racial or communal harmony created by him cannot be preserved by us without much efforts.
To achieve what we wanted could not be achieved, because we failed to work hard like him. Knowingly or unknowingly we have become partly responsible for his unexpected demise for which we should drop our heads in shame.
Before the Venerable. Mathulwawe SobhithaTheras’ remains vanish from the earth, I make a final appeal to His Excellency MaithripalaSrisena the President and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, at this last moment, to send all the detainees for rehabilitation as an alternative to prison sentence. I am sure if this arrangement is made it will be much appreciated. As for my part, I am prepared to stand surety for the bail bonds of all or up to any number acceptable to the court.
I strongly urge that everyone in this country including both the government and the opposition to accept my proposal as a good advice that will do no harm the country’s interest.
