Emil Kanthan was accused of swindling a sum of Rs. 757 million from the State to fund the LTTE. The sum was allocated by the previous government under the guise of providing aid to the Tsunami affected people in the North.
Former LTTE International leader, Emil Kanthan was present in Colombo Magistrate Court and ready to surrender yesterday. He was under warrant issued by the High Court. Although application was made to remove international warrant issued to enable him to surrender, Colombo Magistrate refused to cancel it. As the case was not called up , he couldn’t manage to surrender yesterday, his lawyer said. However, he will surrender in court on 3rd March 2016, his Lawyer Lakshman Perera said.
