The Ministry of Health has declared the period, commencing from today up to 4th of April as the ‘National Mosquito Control Week’.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Maheepala said, the week was launched to conduct island wide cleaning campaigns in order to eradicate mosquitos.
The Presidential Task Force for Dengue Control and the Health Ministry have planned to implement a number of programs during the week.
Around 3,000 teams consisting five members comprising health officials, volunteers, armed forces and police are scheduled to carry out inspections of homes, public and religious places.
Awareness programs would also be carried out simultaneously on dengue and its prevention.
Dr. Palitha Maheepala said red notices will be issued to all dengue breeding grounds.
Accordingly, legal action will be taken against those who fail to follow the red notices.
