The Colombo High Court on Tuesday (21) granted bail to former Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage who has been charged for the alleged possession of an elephant calf without a valid permit. Thilina Gamage was ordered to appear before the Court following a revised application filed with the Colombo High Court by the Attorney General seeking to annul Nugegoda Magistrate’s bail order on the former Additional Magistrate.
Former Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage, accused of being in possession of an elephant calf without required documents, is scheduled to appear before the Colombo High Court today.
Former Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage will appear before the High Court on a notice issued against him.
The Attorney General previously filed a revision application at the Colombo High Court requesting Thilina Gamage to be further remanded after he was released by the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court.
The Former Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage was arrested and released on bail following an order issued by Gangodawila Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne.
He was released on a 500,000 rupee cash bail and four surety bails of 2.5 million rupees.
Thilina Gamage was accused of not having official documentation for the elephant calf’s possession and was charged under the Animal Welfare Legislation and Public Property Act.
Gamage was also sent on compulsory leave by the Judicial Service Commission in view of the on-going investigation
