Congestion in Magazine Prison

As VIPs are now remanded / imprisoned, special security arrangements have to be made. In most of the VIPs separate Cells were allocated. Magazine prison can accommodate only 600 personnel but now 1114 are kept there. In Colombo remand prison 200 could be accommodated and now 900 are detained. At the same time Welikada prison can accommodate only 1600 Prisoners but 2900 prisoners are there now.

VIPs such as Udaya Gammanpila and Muhammad Muzammil are detained in Magazine prison.

In view of the above facts, congestion in Magazine prisons is obvious.
