Ministry of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen addressing the Parliament yesterday said, that quite a number of complaints have been received from the public against three wheel operators, who charge exorbitant rates from them.
There is no standard fixed official rate for three wheelers in Srilanka . Further, three wheel drivers manipulate meters to obtain more money from the public. In order to safeguard the public from exploitation by three wheel drivers, a committee appointed under the Ministry analysed the whole issue and arrived at the decision. Followed by this, we have devised a system to cross check meters periodically.
In view of these facts, we propose to introduce meters in the mid of 2017 to all three wheelers and hiring vehicles in Srilanka .
Department of Measurement Units, Standards and Services coming under the preview of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce will monitor the operation of this new proposal, Minister concluded.
