Thajudeen was murdered on 17th May 2012 in Narahenpita. Former Narahenpita. Police Crimes Division OIC, Sumith Prerera and Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake were arrested and in remand prison now. They are accused of hiding facts regarding the murder.
The CID has closely examined the CCTV recordings and identified the vehicle which followed Thajudeen’s vehicle with the help of motor Traffic Department .
CID has obtained the list of people, who left the country through BIA on that day and proceeding with the investigation . When the case was taken up for inquiry yesterday before Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris, Chief Inspector Crimes , Wimalasri Ravindra submitted a special report covering progress made in investigation during last 14 days .
It was stated in the report that statements have been obtained from the elder brother and sister of deceased Thajudeen and investigation are being carried out based on these statements . Further it stated when Thajudeen was murdered his brother came from abroad to Srilanka to participate in the funeral . During his stay in Srilanka, he went along with OIC Crime Investigation Division, Sumith Champika Perera for investigation. At that time Sumith Champika Perera had told him, that there was a lady’s dispute behind this murder and asked him not to proceed in search of that. Thajudeen brother came back to Srilanka and informed about this to the CID now. Hence, CID has obtained a statement from him . Based on this a statement need to be obtained from Sumith Champika Perea in this connection. The court has approved it. Apart from this Former DIG Anura Senanayake has sent a letter to the CID informing, that he wanted to make a special statement . The court has approved to obtain statement from Anura Senanayake and postponed the case until 6th January 2017.
